My Approach

More than anything, my therapeutic approach is trauma-focused. Because I want to support clients in healing and reducing the impacts of trauma on their lives, I use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). There is significant research supporting EMDR as an effective treatment for PTSD. There is growing evidence that EMDR is effective in treating broad emotional trauma, and adverse life experiences. Because EMDR requires an understanding of the connection between the body’s nervous system and the brain, my approach also incorporates mindfulness skills and polyvagal theory. Research on mindfulness shows its positive impacts on symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety.

About EMDR

EMDR is a multiphase treatment that targets distressing memories, and limiting beliefs. By working together to identify a target, and then adding Bilateral Dual Attention Stimulation (BLS) to be able to calmly think about the target, clients are able to find a lighter emotional charge associated with the targeted memory or limiting belief.
